Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (13-8) dropped a 2-1 contest to the Nashville Sounds (6-15), Friday at Principal Park.
Making a spot-start for Ariel Jurado - who was recalled by Texas today - Tim Dillard baffled the I-Cubs as he was flawless through 4.0 frames. Phillip Evans led off the fifth with a single up the middle to break up the perfect game but he was promptly erased with a double play as Dillard faced the minimum thorough his 5.0-frame outing.
Duncan Robinson got the start for Iowa and was chased after just one inning. Robinson walked three in the frame but was able to limit the damage to a solo shot served up to Willie Calhoun.
Alberto Baldonado took the ball in the second and the control issues continued as the lefty walked the bases loaded before working out of the frame without any damage. He settled in to sit down the Sounds in order in the third. Iowa would ultimately walk a season-high 10 batters.
The I-Cubs were held off the board until the seventh when a single and two walks set Cristhian Adames up for a sacrifice fly to push in the tying run.
Nashville sealed Iowa's fate in the ninth, plating a run on an RBI double from Calhoun.
Postgame Notes:
- Duncan Robinson's 1.0-inning start was the shortest of his career.
- Donnie Dewees collected two of Iowa's three hits, going 2-for-4 with one run. Iowa's three hits were a season low.
The I-Cubs and Sounds meet again at Principal Park tomorrow at 7:08 p.m. Promotions including Pre-Game Catch on the Field, an Iowa Cubs Calendar Giveaway and an appearance from Megan Gustafson, an Iowa alumna and the National Player of the Year.
