HOUSTON, TX - Mike Matteucci, David Cullen and Cory Larose each scored goals to lead the Houston Aeros to a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Wednesday in the opener of a two-game series at the Compaq Center.

Jamie McLennan made 26 saves and Larose added a pair of assists for the Aeros, who improved to 4-5-0-0 in their last nine games and remained in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.

Steve Brule extended his point streak to six games with the lone goal for the Ducks, who fell to 3-8-1-0 in their last 12 games and dropped a point behind Rochester into the 10th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Ilja Bryzgalov stopped 36-of-38 shots in net for the Ducks, who have scored just 21 goals in their last 12 contests.

The Ducks and Aeros finish the two-game series in Houston and a four-game season series Friday at 8:00 p.m.
