WHAT'S ON TAP:
Chicago hosts Hartford tonight (7:00 CT, 8:00 ET) in an inter-conference match-up of two of the AHL's elite teams, featuring the league's top two scorers, Brad Smyth of the Wolf Pack (78 pts.) and Rob Brown of the Wolves (76). Chicago sits fifth in the West, three points from fourth place and home-ice advantage in the conference quarterfinals, but two points from seventh and a best-of-three qualifying series. Hartford is tied for first place overall, with Bridgeport just one point back in the East Division. The Wolf Pack are 15-2-5-2 in their last 24 games; their lupine cousins are 2-6-2 against the Eastern Conference.

Another East meets West showdown pits Bridgeport against Philadelphia at the First Union Spectrum tonight (7:05 ET). The Sound Tigers are currently the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, but they sit just one point off the lead in the AHL's overall standings. While Bridgeport has won three straight and are 18-5-0-1 in their last 24, the Phantoms have dropped three in a row and are 4-13-2-1 in their last 20, falling to eighth in the West. The Sound Tigers own the league's second-ranked power play (20.1%); Philadelphia is second in penalty killing (86.6%).

Manitoba begins a seven-game road trip tonight at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee (7:00 CT). The Moose have lost six of their last seven away from home, and they haven't won a game in the U.S. since Jan. 18 in Utah. The Admirals hold a 4-3-0 edge in the season series, with Petr Sachl (eight points) leading the way. Manitoba's Andre Savage, a Calder Cup champ with Providence in 1999, has five goals in his last four games and a career-high 32 tallies on the season.

Portland and Springfield are vying for crucial points as they play home games on Thursday night: The Pirates, six points out of the final spot in the Eastern Conference, entertain Manchester (6:05 ET), while the Falcons, seven points back, host Worcester (7:05 ET). Portland has scored eight goals in five games since striking for 11 in a win on Feb.16, but is 4-1-1 in its last six at home. Springfield, whose 22 home wins are third-most in the AHL, has lost five of seven to the IceCats this season.
