Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - For the second consecutive time this season the Grand Rapids Griffins were blanked by the Rochester Americans, as they fell 3-0 to the Amerks on Wednesday night at the Blue Cross Arena. Rochester goaltender Tom Askey turned away 26 shots in the shutout and has not allowed a goal in 120 minutes of play against the Griffins. The loss halts Grand Rapids' (39-24-11-0) four-game unbeaten streak, but they remain in sole possession of first place in the West Division.

Christian Matte put the Americans on the scoreboard midway through the first period when he took a pass from Milan Bartovic and slipped a one-timer through the pads of Martin Prusek. The Griffins failed to convert on a pair on power opportunities and trailed by a goal after 20 minutes of play.

After a scoreless second period, Rochester opened up a two-goal lead when on a two on one, Jaroslav Kristek took a feed from Geoff Peters and fired the puck past the glove of Prusek at 14:57. The Americans added an empty net tally late in the game as Craig Charron put the puck between the pipes to seal the Rochester victory. Prusek (16-6-5) turned away 19 shots in the loss, while Askey (14-12-3) earns the victory. Grand Rapids failed to convert on four power play opportunities, while Rochester was held scoreless on three opportunities. Attendance for the game was 6,542.

The Griffins travel to Milwaukee tomorrow and meet the Admirals for the final time of the regular season on Friday night, before closing out the home portion of their schedule against Rochester on Saturday evening.
