Great Lakes Loons News Release

SOUTH BEND, IN - Silver Hawks catcher Errol Hollinger drove in five runs including the game-winner in the ninth inning to cap a 7-6 come-from-behind win over the Great Lakes Loons Thursday night.

South Bend trailed by as many as four runs in the game and by two entering the ninth against Loons closer Steve Ames (0-2). Bobby Borchering pulled the Silver Hawks to within one run with a single to right. Then with two outs and an 0-2 count, Ramon Castillo doubled to right field to bring home the game-tying run. Hollinger followed and drove a 2-2 pitch into left field to score Borchering with the game-winning run.

Hollinger ignited the Silver Hawks' first rally of the game with a three-run home run in the fourth inning off Loons starter Allen Webster, whose bid for his league-leading 12th win was thwarted by home team's rally. Hollinger added another RBI off Webster in the fifth on a single scoring Matt Davidson.

The Loons led 4-0 after a pair of runs in the first and fourth innings. Nick Buss scored the first run in the first, touching the plate on a sacrifice fly by Angelo Songco after a collision at the plate with Hollinger. Brian Cavazos-Galvez drove home the Loons second run with a single to center field.

In the fourth, Brian Ruggiano notched the Loons third straight hit, a single scoring Chris Jacobs. Buss followed with an RBI groundout.

After South Bend made it a one-run game with Hollinger's long ball, the Loons extended their lead to 6-3. Joe Becker tripled in the top of the fifth, his first hit in his return to the Loons, to bring home Blake Smith and Cavazos-Galvez.

Rafael Ynoa, making his first start of the season at shortstop, tied a franchise record with three stolen bases.

Ames surrendered six hits and three runs in 1 2/3 innings for the loss. Webster allowed four in five innings, hitting four Silver Hawks batters. Steve Smith was the Loons most effective hurler with two hitless, scoreless innings.

The Loons are guaranteed a series loss, their first of the second half. They have lost three straight for just the fourth time this season, tied for their longest losing skid of the year. It also marks the Loons' first consecutive losses to South Bend since August 21-22, 2008.

Friday night, the Loons and Silver Hawks meet for the final game of their three-game series. Left-hander Greg Wilborn (2-0, 2.13 ERA), coming off a franchise record-tying 12 strikeout performance Sunday against Lansing, is slated to start for the Loons. Right-hander Randy Rodriguez (0-5, 5.52) is schedule to make a spot start for South Bend. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM.

The Great Lakes Loons are a fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
