Lugnuts Pull Away Late To Slate Dragons, 10-3
August 12, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - Brad Glenn homered twice, including a two-run shot in a five-run ninth, and the Lansing Lugnuts (23-23; 59-56) ripped the Dayton Dragons (10-35; 40-74), 10-3, on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
It was the eleventh straight win for the Lugnuts in the season series between the two teams, as well as Dayton's 23rd straight home defeat.
After homering and tripling in the series opener, Glenn pounded his team-leading 15th and 16th roundtrippers of the year to spearhead a 17-hit attack.
Three of those hits came from Kenny Wilson, including a tie-breaking two-run single in a four-run sixth inning. Sean Ochinko added three hits of his own, his 30th multi-hit game of the year.
Lugnuts starter Egan Smith (5-2) picked up the win, working five innings and allowing three runs while striking out three. He was cheered on by his older brother Jordan, a reliever for the Cincinnati enjoying an ideal off-day. Jordan Smith pitched in the Dragons starting rotation in 2007.
The Lugs received a strong relief effort: Scott Gracey whiffed Henry Rodriguez and Cameron Satterwhite to escape a bases-loaded jam in the seventh and Matt Wright recorded the final six outs for his first career save.
Clayton Shunick (0-1) suffered the loss, reached for four runs (three earned) on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
In defeat for Dayton, Frank Pfister went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and Didi Gregorius slugged his fifth home run of the year.
The Lugnuts look for the series sweep on Friday night at 7:00, sending right-hander Dave Sever (4-8, 4.65) against Dragons right-hander Tim Crabbe (2-4, 4.29).
Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
