Bees Break up Gem Before Falling in Clinton

Burlington Bees News Release
Clinton, IA (August 12, 2010) - Sugar Ray Marimon's second straight quality start was only enough to earn him a loss as his counterpart Tom Wilhelmsen flirted with perfection in a 3-0 Clinton win over the Bees on Thursday night. The loss was the ninth in a row for the Bees.
Wilhelmsen (W, 3-0), who had not played minor league baseball since 2003 before this season, sat down the first 20 Bees batters of the game before Carlo Testa launched a two-out double over the head of left fielder Vinnie Catricala in the seventh. Of the 20 outs, six were strikeouts and 11 were groundouts. The righty finished the inning before leaving with seven scoreless frames under his belt. This is Wilhelmsen's second tour of duty in the Midwest League, as he posted a 2.76 ERA in 15 starts with Beloit in 2003 before leaving the game for personal reasons.
On the other side, Marimon (L, 2-5) allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings. The first hit he allowed provided what proved to be the game-winning run, as Matt Cerione blasted his eighth homer to lead off the third.
Marimon did benefit from a pair of Testa defensive gems in the first and fourth, however. On near-identical plays, Testa gloved fly balls off the bats of Catricala and Mario Martinez near the right field foul line and threw strikes to the plate for double plays to end both innings.
The Bees managed two more hits after Testa's double in the seventh, as Hilton Richardson and Jake Kuebler chipped in with singles in the eighth and ninth.
The Bees take on the LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field again on Friday night at 7:00 to close out the series. Listen live at GoBees.com and on News Radio 1490 KBUR starting with the Casebine Community Credit Union Pregame Show at 6:40.
