Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - On the day he turned 21, Kyle Lobstein pitched like a man against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday night. The birthday boy didn't get much help, though, as the Hot Rods dropped their second straight to the Whitecaps by a final of 4-1. The loss leaves Bowling Green three games out of the playoff chase heading into their series finale with West Michigan on Friday night.
Lobstein faced just one batter above the minimum through the first three innings, allowing just a walk in the second. In the fourth, West Michigan finally got to him as Michael Rockett hit a double to left. He scored two batters later on a triple to right by former WKU Hilltopper Wade Gaynor. Gaynor then scored on when Avisail Garcia lifted a sacrifice fly into center field to make it 2-0.
Lobstein pitched into the seventh, leaving the game after one-out single. That run eventually came around to score and was charged to Lobstein's final line. He went 6.1 innings surrendering three runs on six hits. The lefty struck out six and walked just one, taking a tough-luck loss despite a quality start.
The Hot Rods managed their only run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Dustin Biell drew a two-out walk against reliever Antonio Cruz. After a wild pitch, Ty Morrison drove a single into left field to plate Biell and cut the Hot Rods deficit to 3-1.
West Michigan added one more run in the ninth before the Hot Rods went down quietly to end the game. Luis Angel Sanz earned the win for West Michigan after throwing six shutout innings to improve to 2-5.
The Hot Rods and Whitecaps now play for the final time on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. The first 500 kids 12 & under will receive Hot Rods Lunch Boxes before all fans can enjoy a postgame fireworks show, all courtesy of Crossroads IGA. Gates open at 5:30 PM for Season Ticket Holders and 6 PM for the general public. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
RHP Albert Suarez makes the start for the Hot Rods on Friday night, still searching for his first win of the season. He'll take on West Michigan RHP Patrick Cooper (0-0, 5.68). You can listen to the game with Tom Gauthier and Hank Fuerst beginning at 6:50 PM on 1340 WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
