Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Brad Glenn belted two home runs to lead the Lansing Lugnuts to a 10-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night before a crowd of 7,969 at Fifth Third Field. The Lugnuts have won the first two games of the series that concludes Friday night.
Lansing broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in the sixth inning and went to collect 17 hits on the night. Sean Ochinko and Kenny Wilson each had three hits to lead their attack.
Lansing starting pitcher Egan Smith, the younger brother of former Dragon (and current Reds pitcher) Jordan Smith, earned the victory to improve to 5-2. He allowed three runs in five and two-thirds innings.
Dayton's Didi Gregorius lined a home run to right field with one out in the first inning to give Dayton a 1-0 lead. It was Gregorius' fifth homer of the year. Glenn responded with a solo homer with two outs in the third inning, his 15th of the year, to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lugnuts scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead. They took advantage two Dayton errors in the inning to jump out to the lead, keyed by a two-run single by Wilson.
The Dragons pulled to within two in the bottom of the sixth when Frank Pfister lined a double down the right field line to drive in a pair of runs and make it 5-3. In the seventh, the Dragons loaded the bases with one out, but Lansing reliever Scott Gracey struck out both Henry Rodriguez and Cameron Satterwhite to end the threat.
Lansing scored five runs in the top of the ninth, keyed by a two-run homer by Glenn, to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Clayton Shunick worked the first five and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and four runs (three earned) with two walks and five strikeouts. He was charged with the loss to fall to 0-1.
The Dragons finished with seven hits. Pfister led the way, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. Ryan LaMarre had one hit to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight games.
The Dragons (10-35) host the Lansing Lugnuts (23-23) in the finale of the three-game series on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Tim Crabbe (2-4, 4.29) will start for Dayton against Lansing's Dave Sever (4-8, 4.65). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Channel 23 on most Time Warner cable systems).
