Hitmen Outlast Tigers
January 29, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - Blake Stevenson and Anton Yatsyshin both tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-5 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night at Co-op Place.
Six different Hitmen counted goals as Brandon Whynott, Zac Funk, Anton Astashevich and Mason Finley also found the scoresheet. Finley's first career Western Hockey League marker, which made it 6-2 at the time, turned out to be the game winner. Calgary, which trailed 1-0 after the first period and led 2-1 after 40 minutes, also received a pair of assists from Anaheim Ducks prospect Sean Tschigerl.
Logan Barlage paced the Medicine Hat attack with a pair of goals with Owen MacNeil, Rhett Parsons and Teague Patton adding singles. The Tigers scored three times in the final 1:37 to pull within a goal before their comeback bid fell short.
On the special teams front, Calgary went 1-2 on the power play and killed the lone chance for Medicine Hat.
With the victory the Hitmen improve to 17-14-5-2 while the loss drops the Tigers to 8-26-3-1.
Calgary will wrap up the weekend tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 30 at home against the Swift Current Broncos. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. Dutton's Lounge opens for pre-game food and beverage service beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the end of the first intermission.
