Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Regina, SK - Vinny Iorio had a career night as the Brandon Wheat Kings earned a 6-4 win in Regina on Friday.
The Washington Capitals prospect scored twice and added three assists for his first five-point night helping Brandon overcome 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2 deficits on route to their 19th win of the season.
"Without Mason Ward, Vinny played a lot of minutes tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "He did a real good job on the powerplay and kept the puck in front of him. This was a well-rounded effort from him. He made a lot of good decisions and made the game easy for everyone back there."
The Wheat Kings who were playing their first game since January 16th in Calgary, started slow and the Pats quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
"I wasn't sure how we would be tonight, being off for so long," said MacGillivray. "We were a bit slow out of the gate and the Pats played with pace and were physical. Our powerplay got us going and I thought we did a real good job in the third period getting that early goal in the third and then locking it down."
Nate Danielson scored twice and Landon Roberts scored for the Wheat Kings but the highlight of the night came off the stick of Trae Johnson, who scored his first career WHL goal in spectacular fashion.
Ethan Kruger started for the first time since January 12th in Medicine Hat and made 23 saves for his 13th win of the season.
The Wheat Kings now have a rare Saturday off, after the Prince Albert Raiders ran into Covid-19 issues and were forced to postpone Saturday night's meeting at the Art Hauser. The Wheat Kings are back in action on Sunday in Saskatoon. (4:00 on Bounce Radio)
