Hill Delivers Walk-Off Home Run with a Record Crowd at UPMC Park

The Erie SeaWolves walked off on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, completing a series sweep, in front of a record crowd of 7,045 by a 4-3 final in 10 innings at UPMC Park. Erie has now won a season-high five straight games.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the bottom of the second against Binghamton starter David Peterson. Frank Schwindel led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a Josh Lester base hit. Schwindel scored on a Sergio Alcantara fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.
Erie extended the lead in the fourth with two outs as Daniel Pinero connected on a solo home run, his sixth, for a 2-0 advantage.
SeaWolves starter Logan Shore began his night by tossing six scoreless frames. The Rumble Ponies struck back with two outs in the seventh. David Thompson doubled and was doubled home by Andres Gimenez making it a 2-1 game. Erie summoned Zac Houston who struck out Braxton Lee, stranding the tying run in scoring position.
Binghamton tied the game in the eighth against Houston. Luis Carpio led off with a single and scored on a double by Mike Paez. Houston retired the side in order following the RBI double as the Ponies stranded the go-ahead run on third.
Both teams went scoreless in the ninth inning, sending the game into extras for the second consecutive game.
In the top of the 10th, Gimenez started as the free runner at second. Lee laid down a bunt and reached on a single. Carpio followed with an RBI single that plated Gimenez for a 3-2 Ponies lead. Carlton induced a flyout from Paez and got Jason Krizan to hit into an inning-ending double play, sending the game into the bottom of the 10th.
The Ponies brought in Matt Blackham to work in the last of the 10th inning. Alcantara started at second as the free runner. Blackham retired Chace Numata on a flyout to left and got Luke Burch to pop out to third. Derek Hill was the last hope for the SeaWolves. He fell behind in the count 1-2 before clobbering a game-winning, walk-off home run. It was the ninth home run of the season for Hill.
Carlton (1-2) earned the win allowing an unearned run on two hits with no walks and a strikeout in two innings.
Blackham (4-2) took the loss for Binghamton allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit in 0.2 innings.
Shore took a no-decision allowing a run on five hits with no walks and one strikeout in a season-high 6.2 innings.
The SeaWolves hit the road as they begin a four-game series at Altoona on Friday night at 7 p.m. RHP Alex Faedo (5-5, 3.36 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Sean Brady (3-5, 3.88 ERA).
