TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies wrap up their three-game series at Erie. Tonight's game is the last of the Ponies' eight-game road trip.
LAST TIME OUT: The Rumble Ponies fell to Erie 5-4 in10 innings Tuesday night on a Derek Hill a walk-off single in the bottom of the10th. It marks the third time in the last four games Binghamton has lost on a walk-off. Gavin Checcini drove in three runs and hit a two-run homer. RHP Andrew Church allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out seven in 5.2 innings and got a no decision.
WALK-OFF WOES: In the last four games, the Rumble Ponies have suffered three walk-off losses. In both games against Erie, the Ponies have lost 5-4. On Tuesday, they lost in 10 innings, and Monday's game ended in the bottom of the ninth. Their other walk-off loss came at Altoona 4-3 on Saturday. The Ponies are now 3-4 in walk-offs and fall to 6-3 in extra innings.
SEASON SERIES: The Rumble Ponies won the first six games against the SeaWolves this season. Erie has taken the last five. Following this three-game series, the two teams meet again for four games in Binghamton (7/30-8/1).
HITTING FOR AVERAGE: The Seawolves lead the Eastern League in batting average (.250). The Ponies rank third at .244. Binghamton is also third in the EL for runs, averaging 4.3.
MULTI-HIT KRIZAN: Jason Krizan tallied three hits Tuesday night against the Erie. It was his second three-hit game of the year and his ninth multi-hit game of 2019.
BARNES CATCHES FIRE: Barrett Barnes is currently riding a six-game hitting streak, one away from his season-long seven. He has driven in a run in five of these games, including two multi-RBI games. He has seven RBI in these games and is hitting .318 (7-22) with three home runs. Barnes sits fourth in the EL in OPS (.843) and fifth in OBP (.379).
PONIES ON THE ROAD: After starting the season 26-12 on the road, the Ponies have lost five of their last seven. During that stretch, Binghamton has suffered three one-run defeats. The Ponies still hold the best record in the EL away from home.
FIVE PONIES HEADING TO ASG: Five members of the Rumble Ponies have been selected to this year's Eastern League all-star game. They are RHP Harol Gonzalez, second basemen Sam Haggerty, outfielder Braxton Lee, catcher/first basemen Patrick Mazeika, and RHP Adonis Uceta. Binghamton is tied for the second-most all-stars behind Richmond's six selections. The all-star game will be played July 10 at The Diamond in Richmond, VA.
COMING UP: The Ponies return home for a four-game series against Akron, which begins Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.
