Future Red Sox and Mega Blast Fireworks Highlight Fourth of July Weekend
July 3, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) return home to Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday for a four-game Fourth of July Weekend series against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox), featuring three spectacular Mega Blast Atlas Fireworks shows and a look at the future stars of Fenway Park.
Although the Fisher Cats (5-10) are off to a slow start in the second half playoff race, they're still just 4.5 games out of the top spot in the Eastern Division. The Sea Dogs (6-8) enter Wednesday on a three-game winning streak, and feature five of Boston's top 10 prospects according to MLB.com.
The No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox system, Bobby Dalbec, currently leads the Eastern League with 17 home runs, while No. 8 prospect C.J. Chatam ranks second in the league with a .322 batting average.
Portland OF Jarren Duran, who played with Fisher Cats OF Brock Lundquist at Long Beach State, was recently named to the MLB All-Star Futures Game, and is batting .327 between Advanced-A and Double-A as the Red Sox No. 9 prospect.
The Sea Dogs pitching staff features two of Boston's best young arms: Eastern League All-Star Tanner Houck (No. 5 prospect) and recently promoted Bryan Mata (No. 7). Houck is scheduled to pitch on Saturday night, while Mata is slated for the Sunday afternoon series finale.
The Fisher Cats have four Eastern League All-Stars of their own in IF Santiago Espinal, IF Nash Knight, OF Forrest Wall, and LHP Zach Logue, who is scheduled to start on Thursday. The addition of 2017 first-round pick Logan Warmoth has bolstered the offense, which overcame a 5-1 deficit on Monday night en route to a dramatic 7-5 win in Reading.
