Hershey kicks off two-game series tonight in Norfolk
January 25, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The BEARS begin a stretch of four games in five days Wednesday night in Norfolk against the Admirals. HERSHEY begins play tonight seven points behind first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the East Division race.
Heading into tonight's game, the BEARS will have two reinforcements helping out at forward. Washington announced Tuesday that Colin Forbes has been assigned to HERSHEY after being scratched from the lineup on Monday in the Capitals' game against the Boston Bruins. Forbes is expected to be back in the lineup tonight in Norfolk. The BEARS also called up forward Mike Kompon from the Reading Royals (ECHL) on Tuesday. Kompon, a four-year standout at Miami University, will make his HERSHEY debut tonight against the Admirals.
Norfolk last week lost goaltender Craig Anderson to the Boston Bruins when he was claimed off waivers. Scott Reid and Mike McKenna are tending goal for the Admirals, with both goalies starting the season in the lower minor leagues. McKenna was recalled last weekend from Las Vegas (ECHL), while Reid came from the Corpus Christi Rayz (CHL) two weeks ago. Adam Munro is currently on recall to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Tonight's game is the first of three this week against Norfolk. Following game two of the series Friday night at Norfolk Scope, the two clubs will meet Sunday afternoon at GIANT Center. Binghamton visits Chocolatetown on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. for the only other game this week for Bruce Boudreau's club. Listen to the BEARS radio network tonight beginning at 6:55 p.m. on 100.1 FM WQIC and 1490 AM WLPA. The game can also be heard via the internet at Pennlive.com or through HersheyBears.com on B2 Networks. John Walton has the call of the action from southeastern Virginia. Tickets for this weekend's games at GIANT Center are available through the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
