Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH -- Omaha scored two power play goals to defeat the Barons Wednesday night, 4-2. The Barons playing their first of nine consecutive home games had a five game home ice winning streak snapped with the loss.
Questionable ice conditions at Quicken Loans Arena forced a delay to the star of the game by more than fifty minutes. Once the teams hit the surface it produced a sluggish and slow affair with a total of 16 combined shots and three goals through twenty minutes. Cleveland's Josh Prudden tallied his ninth of the year to give the Barons a 1-0 lead at the 6:12 mark. The goal was quickly answered on a power play from Omaha by rookie forward Eric Nystrom. The Knights then took their first lead of the night on a goal by Carsen Germyn, his team leading 20th of the year at even strength. The Barons were out-shot 9-7 in the period.
The Barons dominated the majority of the second period, but were still out-scored 2-1 during the stanza. Josh Hennessy scored his 15th of the year for Cleveland tying the game at 2-2 just past the midpoint of the frame. Omaha answered with back-to-back tallies from Justin Taylor and Lynn Loyns less than 30-seconds apart for a 4-2 lead after forty minutes of play. Taylor's goal was scored on Omaha's only power play chance of the period and Loyns scored his fourth of the season on a penalty shot against Barons goaltender Nolan Schaefer.
The Barons out-shooting Omaha 8-6 in the third period did not help in a comeback bid as neither team could score in the final frame of regulation time. With the defeat the Barons had a five-game winning streak on home ice snapped. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Omaha ended a seven game losing streak with the win.
Tonight marks the first of a nine game home stand for the Barons, their longest in franchise history. Friday and Saturday nights the Barons host Milwaukee at 7pm. Saturday's game features a double-header as St. Edward and St. Ignatius renew their high school rivalry at 3:45 in the "Cold War III". One ticket is good for both games and the first 3,000 fans at Saturday's game receive a FREE Barons T-Shirt. Also appearing on Saturday will be Tommy from the Rugrats, courtesy of Cox Communications. Tickets for the weekend are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
