Norfolk Admirals News Release
The Admirals' #7 Carl Corazzini and #11 Mark Cullen scored three of Norfolk's five goals en route to a 5-1 win over the Hershey Bears.
It didn't take long for the Admirals to light the lamp behind Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi. Mark Cullen fished out a dump-in from behind the net to the right of Cassivi. He dished a backhanded pass toward the right face-off dot. A streaking Carl Corazzini sent a blazing one-timer past the Bears' backstop at 0:20. The Cullen-Corazzini tandem found the back of the net once again midway through the opening period with the man-advantage. Cullen skated around the net and found Corazzini skating down the right face-off circle. Once again, Cullen provided Corazzini with a pass that was one-timed past Corazzini at 12:30. Norfolk led 2-0 after twenty minutes.
The Admirals scored two power play goals early in the middle frame while Bears' forward Eric Fehr was serving a five-minute major for high-sticking. Just over a minute into the second stanza, Nathan Barrett took the puck from the corner to the right of Cassivi and dished it across the crease. Cullen was on the receiving end of a one-timer goal as he banged it home at 1:12. Under a minute later, Shawn Thornton sent a shot on Cassivi that ricocheted back through the slot to Danny Richmond. Richmond teed up a slap shot that made its way through traffic and into the back of the net at 2:05. Norfolk netted another goal ten minutes later. Martin St. Pierre got the puck behind the net and passed to Barrett who lit the lamp at 13:55. The Admirals led 4-0 at the second break.
Hershey broke up Norfolk netminder Mike McKenna's shutout bid just over a minute into the final frame after he had stopped 15 shots through two periods. Eric Fehr scored off a deflection on the power play at 1:17. Despite being short-handed for much of the third period, McKenna and the Admirals' defense did not allow another Hershey goal as Norfolk won 5-1.
Mike McKenna picked up the win and stopped 28 of 29 shots. Frederic Cassivi was saddled with the loss and stopped 19 of the Admirals' 24 shots.
Norfolk was 3-9 on the power play while Hershey 1-9.
