GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan -- Pavel Brendl and Pascal Rheaume started a rally with two power-play goals to tie the game 2-2 but it didn't hold up falling to the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 at Van Andel Arena. Rampage goaltender Karl Goehring had 33 saves on the night as newly acquired Jeff Taffe's first game in a Rampage jersey also marked his 100th AHL game.

Grand Rapids jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period with a pair of power-play goals as Jiri Hudler took advantage of Jakub Koreis' hooking minor at the 4:59 mark. Donald MacLean collected his 30th goal with the Griffins' second power-play goal of the night at 10:22 in the period.

Pavel Brendl brought the Rampage within one at 2:19 in the second period with his 12th goal of the season. Brendl's power-play goal was his fourth point in his last two games.

Midway through the final frame, Brendl and Eric Chouinard assisted on Rheaume's fifth goal of the season to knot the game at 2-2.

The Rampage outshot the Griffins 12-11 in the third period, but Eric Himelfarb took advantage of Layne Ulmer's high-sticking penalty with 4:24 remaining in regulation as his sixth goal of the season was the game-winner.

The Rampage (13-28-1-2) return home Friday to take on the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
