
Hens Start Final Home Stand with Loss

Toledo, OH -The Toledo Mud Hens opened the series against the Columbus Clippers in their final home stand of the season and fell 11-5.
Zach Logue started on the mound to open the series for the Mud Hens, opening the game with a one-two-three inning.
Jason Bilous made the start on the mound for the Mud Hens. Bilous had a tough time finding the strike zone in the first inning, walking the bases loaded with two outs. Justice Biggie was hit by a pitch and that scored *Wenceel Perez *and the Mud Hens went up 1-0. It took Bilous 30 pitches to finish the first inning.
The first hit of the game didn't come till the second inning when George Valera singled up the middle with a runner on first to put runners on first and second with one out. Later in the inning, a two-out triple from Angel Martinez scored two runs for the Clippers and gave Columbus a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the third inning, Brayan Rocchio led off the inning with a triple to deep right-center field. Later in the inning with one out, Kyle Manzardo worked a walk to put runners on the corners, then* Jonathan Rodriguez* lined a single to right field to score Rocchio and put the Clippers up 3-1.
The Mud Hens first hit of the game didn't come until the third inning when Colt Keith roped a single to the right side of the field. After getting one out, Bilous walked Nick Maton to put runners on first and second. That walk meant the end of the day for Bilous as Luis Oviedo entered the game with one out in the third inning out of the bullpen. Oviedo walked the first batter he faced to load the bases with one out. Ryan Kreidler worked a bases-loaded walk to score the Mud Hens' second run of the game. Donny Sands then worked a walk for the Mud Hens eighth walk and third time with the bases loaded to tie the game up at 3-3.
In the top of the fifth inning, Oscar Gonzalez singled to put himself on. Later in the inning with two outs, Jhonkensy Noelhit a 2-out single that dropped in no man's land in right-center field allowed Gonzalez to score from first and give Columbus a 4-3 lead.
To lead off the bottom of the third inning, Nick Maton worked a walk to put himself on with no outs. Maton then stole a second to put himself in scoring position for Nick Solak. Solak then lined a single into right field to score Maton and tie the game at 4-4. Oviedo recorded back-to-back strikeouts but then walked Donny Sands to put runners on first and second. The walk to Sands meant the end of the day for Oviedo and the Clippers went to Cade Smith to get the final out of the inning which he did via a strikeout.
Garrett Hill pitched the top of the sixth inning for the Hens and wasn't greeted nicely. The first batter he faced, Bryan Lavistida, roped a solo home run to reclaim the lead for the Clippers making it 5-4.
Back-to-back doubles from Oscar Gonzalez and Kyle Manzardo scored another run for the Clippers to make it 6-4. Jonathan Rodriguez then singled and advanced to second on a throwing error to put runners on second and third with no outs. The next batter, Jhonkensy Noel then singled to right field to make it 7-4 Clippers. Another run would cross from third after a four-six-three double play to make it 8-4 going to the bottom of the seventh inning.
Braden Bristo came in to pitch the top of the eighth inning for the Hens. Daniel Schneemann worked a walk then later in the inning with one out, Oscar Gonzalez unloaded a two-run home run to put the Clippers up 10-4.
In the top of the ninth inning, Angel Martinez added more insurance to the already large lead by hitting a solo home run making it 11-4 Clippers.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Nick Maton walked for the fourth time if the game and following the walk Nick Solak doubled to score Maton to make it 11-5. However Nic Enright was able to shut the door on the Hens and secure the 11-5 victory for the Clippers.
