The Portland Winterhawks (0-3) fell 3-1 to the Everett Silvertips (2-1) Saturday in their home opener at the Moda Center in front of 9,159 fans.

Just 5:33 into the game the Hawks got on the board when Rodrigo Abols ripped a shot from slot over the shoulder of Everett netminder Carter Hart on a power play to take a 1-0 lead. It was the first WHL goal for Abols, the team's first round pick in the CHL Import. The Silvertips tied it at 8:00 on a goal by Devon Skoleski to make it 1-1, which remained the score going into the second.

It remained tied until 17:09 of the second when Everett defenseman Noah Juulsen scored to give the visitors a 2-1 lead, the lone goal of the period.

Early in the third, Skoleski scored his second goal of the night, this one on a power play, as they took a 3-1 lead. The Hawks generated several chances down the stretch, but the Silvertips came away with the win.

Adin Hill made his debut in net after suffering an injury last weekend in Victoria, and made 24 saves on 27 shots. Hart stopped 33 of Portland's 34 shots.

The Hawks will be back in action Friday when they host the Spokane Chiefs at 7 p.m. in the Moda Center.
