Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - A goal by Reid Gardiner 18 seconds into overtime gave the Prince Albert Raiders a 5-4 victory against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Caught in a back-and-forth track meet again, the Raiders went beyond regulation to find a winner for the third home game in a row. A tally by Austin Glover tied the game in the final minute of the second period and was the final goal before the end of regulation. Just as a Medicine Hat player stepped out of the penalty box in overtime, Gardiner deposited his second goal of the game to secure Prince Albert's third-straight win.
Veterans led the way on Saturday for the Raiders with Gardiner (2g-1a), Jesse Lees (1g-2a), and Simon Stransky (3a) each recording three-point performances. Minnesota Wild prospect Hunter Warner collected two and set up the game winner. Cal Babych netted his first goal since being acquired from the Prince George Cougars prior to the regular season, while Prince Albert's other goal came from Glover.
Four different Tigers picked up two points. Steven Owre scored two goals, while Trevor Cox and David Quenneville nabbed a pair of assists. Cole Sanford (1g-1a) and Matt Bradley also scored for the visitors.
Making his third start of the year, Rylan Parenteau made 29 saves on 33 shots, while his counterpart in the Tigers' net, Evan Johnson, kicked out 25 of 30 attempts.
The Tigers outshot the Raiders 33-30. Prince Albert went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Medicine Hat was 0-for-3.
Prince Albert remains undefeated on home ice and improves their record to 3-1-0-0. The Tigers record falls to 2-1-1-0.
The Prince Albert Raiders conclude their four-game home stand on Tuesday, October 6 when they take on the Kootenay Ice. Game time is 7:00 PM. The Raiders embark on their US Division road trip on Wednesday as they get set to play six games in eight nights, starting on Saturday, October 10 versus the Seattle Thunderbirds.
