Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB -- Heading into Saturday night's game against the Prince Albert Raiders, the Tigers knew the home side could score goals, as they were ranked second in the entire WHL in goals scored. On this night, the goals came fast and furious with 5 in the opening 20 minutes.

Matt Bradley kick started the goal fury just under 4 minutes into the game as he streaked down the off wing and roofed a back hand top shelf over Raiders goaltender Rylan Parenteau. On the play, Tigers rookie Tyler Preziuso recorded his first WHL point with an assist. Medicine Hat would then get into some penalty trouble taking 3 straight trips to the box. Prince Albert would capitalize on two of those advantages as Jesse Lees and Reid Gardner found the back of the net.

After the midway point of the frame, the Tigers top line took over as Ty Stanton sprung Cole Sanford on a partial breakaway, mnaking a nifty move around Parenteau to tie the game at 2-2. Just a minute later Steven Owre would pot his second of the season on a great pass from linemate Trevor Cox. David Quenneville picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

The middle frame started slow as the puck was bouncing all over as the team's played their defensive systems. Tigers Russian import Alexey Platonov made his WHL debut on the night and made his presence felt crunching a Raider skater into the boards, however the referee deemed that illegal and sent the 6'5 defenseman to the box for his first career penalty, the Tigers would kill it off.

Three minutes after the Tigers successful penalty kill, Raider newest player Cal Babych would pot home a loose puck to pull the home team even at 3-3. Four minutes later Owre and the Tigers top line were at it again as the California native potted his second of the game, giving the assists to Cox and Sanford. The see-saw game continued in the period as the Raiders would pull even with less than a minute remaining in the second period as Austin Glover was in the right spot to tie the game at 4-4 after 40 minutes.

The final frame did not see any goals scored as both Evan Johnson for the Tigers and Rylan Parenteau for the Raiders were very good in net, keeping it a tied game. The final frame also boasted a head to head matchup between the two teams top lines. Each team also had 2 power plays in the period but were unsuccessful on those opportunities. The game stayed tied and headed to overtime.

In the final minute of the third the Tigers did take a penalty as Mason Shaw was called for slashing, the Tigers had to kill the penalty in the 4th period (a 4 on 3). Medicine Hat looked to be headed to even strength but just as the penalty expired, the Raider Gardner was left open at the back door and potted home a one timer to win the game for the home side, 5-4.
