
Chiefs Spoil Americans' Home Opener in Overtime

Kennewick, WA- The Tri-City Americans (0-1-1-0, 1 pts) made a comeback in the third period and evened the score against the Spokane Chiefs (2-1-0-0, 4 pts), but Spokane was able to prevail 4-3 in overtime in front of 4,510 at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
The game started off physical, as the two teams were getting into it less than 20 seconds into the game. Both teams had solid chances throughout the first, with Spokane cashing in 13:46 into the first. Jason Fram put home a rebound for a 1-0 lead. Tri-City had a 10-6 shot advantage, but Spokane had the lead after one period.
Spokane went up 2-0 midway through the second, as Dominic Zwerger tipped a shot from the point into the net. The shots were even at seven in the second period, with the Americans looking to come from behind in the third.
Tri-City fought back in the third, as Vladislav Lukin scored 5:45 into the period to cut the lead to 2-1. The Americans tied the game two minutes later, as Parker Bowles slapped in a rebound. Spokane retook the lead three minutes later, as Jason Fram fired a shot from the blue line through traffic into the net. Tri-City tied the game again, as Jordan Topping was able to light the lamp and send the game to overtime.
It only took seven seconds to settle the game in overtime, as Zwerger scored his second of the game to give the Chiefs the win.
The Americans were unable to score with six power play chances and recorded 34 penalty minutes. The Chiefs were 1-of-5 on the power play and spent 37 minutes in the penalty box.
Evan Sarthou stopped 19 shots in the loss while Tyson Verhelst made 31 saves in the win.
Tri-City is back in action Sunday, Oct. 4, against the Seattle Thunderbirds (1-1-0-0, 2 pts) at the Toyota Center. Game time is at 5:05 p.m. for FastSigns Kids Night. The two teams split the series last season with four wins each.
