Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Regina SK. - Jayce Hawryluk and the powerplay came alive Saturday night as the visiting Brandon Whaet Kings erupted for a 6-0 victory over the Pats in Regina.

Brandon scored four powerplay goals, including three from Jayce Hawryluk, who finished the night with four goals and five points as the Wheat Kings rebounded from Friday's 3-2 loss to Calgary to improve to 2-1-0-1 on the season.

"He was really good based how competitive he was at the net, based on how he found pucks and obviously a four-goal night," Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon told Bruce Luebke on CKLQ's post-game show. "Just was on the puck the whole night."

Through the first three games of the regular season, Brandon had gone 0 for 18 with the man advantage so needless to say, McCrimmon says it felt good to see it bounce back in a big way.

"I wasn't concerned about our power-play after the opening weekend because we still had people coming back to our lineup," said McCrimmon. "I was sure disappointed after our game against Calgary so it was real good to break through the way that we did."

Reid Duke and John Quenneville rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who were playing without 20-year old left-winger Rihards Bukarts, who has been slapped with an indefinite suspension from the Western Hockey League following his checking from behind major on Friday night.

Nolan Patrick, the League's Rookie of the Year in 2014-15, added three assists while Kale Clague, Ivan Provorov and Quenneville added two assists each.

Meanwhile netminder Jordan Papirny turned aside sixteen Regina shots, in posting his seventh career shutout, moving him past Geoff McIntosh and into a tie with Byron Penstock for fifth place on the club's all time list for shutouts.

The Wheat Kings return to action Tuesday night at Westman Place when they kick off a 4-game home stand against the visiting Vancouver Giants.

Tuesday is the first "2 for Tuesday" of the 2015-16 season, which means fans will receive a FREE ticket when they purchase one at the regular admission price. As well, the Keystone Centre will be offering special discounts on a number of concession items including soft drinks, beer, hot dogs and popcorn.

The Keystone Centre box office will re-open Monday morning. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling 726-3555.
