Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - INF Marco Yepez was an unlikely hero in the Harrisburg Senators' 3-1 victory Friday at Canal Park in Akron. Yepez hadn't played in nearly two weeks, but came up with a pinch-hit, two-run double in the top of the 10th as the Senators opened a six-game road trip with a late-inning rally against the first-place Aeros.
RHP Adrian Alaniz worked out of trouble for most of the evening, walking six Aeros. Akron had runners at first and second in the 2nd inning, first and third in the 3rd, and the bases loaded with one out in the 4th, but each time Alaniz got off the hook.
Meanwhile, Akron RHP Steven Wright retired the first 11 Senators to come to the plate. That string was broken in the 4th on a two-out single by Jemel Spearman.
The Senators got on the board when Marvin Lowrance drilled a solo home run to left-center to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead.
Akron tied the game in the bottom of the 8th when Stephen Head hammered a solo shot to right off RHP Adam Carr to make it 1-1.
In the top of the 10th, former Aero Javi Herrera laced a one-out double to left-center off LHP Chuck Lofgren. Akron intentionally walked pinch hitter Edgardo Baez to set up the double play ball, then went to closer RHP Randy Newsom. Yepez, who hadn't played since going on the Disabled List on July 21st, came up and crunched a pinch-hit two-run double to right-center to give the Senators a 3-1 lead.
Carr picked up the win to move to 2-1. RHP Steve Schmoll worked a perfect 10th inning to notch his sixth save. Lofgren took the loss to fall to 1-5.
The Senators improved to 62-50. Akron is now 67-46.
The Senators and Aeros continue the three-game series Saturday at 7:05 PM. LHP Justin Jones (2-2, 7.08 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg against Aeros LHP Ryan Edell (5-6, 4.14 ERA).
