Connecticut Defenders News Release

MANCHESTER, NH- The Defenders road woes followed them to New Hampshire as the Fisher Cats handily defeated Connecticut on Friday, 5-1.

The Defs struck the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning on an RBI single off the stick of Pablo Sandoval to plate Kyle Haines, who walked earlier in the frame. In the middle of three, the Defenders led, 1-0.

New Hampshire found their stroke in the last of the fourth as a one-out rally was sparked at the bottom of the lineup. Four consecutive base knocks, including a two-run homer off the bat of Erik Kratz. The Cats brought four runs to the plate in the inning to give New Hampshire a 4-1 advantage.

David Smith's solo blast to start in the fifth extended the lead to 5-1, as Connecticut's starting hurler Ben Snyder stumbled through five innings of work.

The Defenders were blanked through the remainder of the ballgame as New Hampshire's bullpen got into a grove after the departure of Jean Machi, who started the game.

Snyder was credited with his third loss as he lasted five innings, gave up all five runs on eight hits, walked three and fanned four. Machi, conversely, picked up his first win of the season as he went five frames, gave up one run on four hits, walked three and struck out five.

The Defs and Cats will squabble on Saturday at Merchantsauto.com at 7:05pm. Catch all the action at ctdefenders.com or locally on the Defender's Radio Network.
