Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - A last-minute trade by the Washington Nationals affected the Harrisburg Senators on Thursday. RHP Jhonny Nunez was shipped to the New York Yankees; RHP Andrew Kown took the open roster spot after being signed by the Nationals as a free agent.

Nunez, 22, goes to his third organization in as many seasons. He played his first three seasons in the Dodgers organization before coming to the Nationals in near the end of the 2006 season in a trade for OF Marlon Anderson. After moving to the bullpen in mid-July, he worked 12 innings and allowed just two earned runs between Potomac and Harrisburg.

Kown, 25, was released by the Detroit Tigers on July 22nd. The Nationals signed him as a minor-league free agent and assigned him to Harrisburg on Thursday. With the Erie SeaWolves this season, Kown was 5-9 with a 5.38 ERA in 17 appearances (16 starts). He was selected by the Tigers in the 5th round of the 2004 draft out of Georgia Tech University.

With the moves, the Senators maintain 24 players on the active roster. The addition of Kown means 58 different players have suited up for the Senators this year. Only six players from the Opening Day roster remain on the active roster. Only one player from the Opening Day starting lineup (OF Mike Daniel) has remained on the active roster in Harrisburg for the entire season to date.

The Senators open a six-game road trip tonight at 7:05 PM against the Akron Aeros. They then travel to Erie to face the SeaWolves in a three-game series at Jerry Uht Park. The Senators return home on Thursday, August 7th against the Altoona Curve (Double-A Pittsburgh Pirates). Tickets can be purchased by calling the Senators' box office at 231-4444 or online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
