Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Phillies will be holding a baseball memorabilia auction and ticket raffle to benefit the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association (alsphiladelphia.org). ALS is commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The event will take place during Reading's home game against the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:05 PM. The auction will begin when gates open at 6:00 PM and runs through the fifth inning. The auction and raffle will place in the right field food court. Winners will be announced immediately following the game.

Items available include jerseys autographed by Phillies stars Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley, as well as baseballs signed by Mike Schmidt, Ken Griffey Jr., Shane Victorino and Scott Rolen. Also included in the items will be a bat signed by Pat Burrell, as well as items signed by Phillies 1B Ryan Howard and LHP Cole Hamels.

Last year's auction raised $3,000 for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association.

The event was spearheaded by former R-Phils hitting coach Greg Gross (2007) and his girlfriend, Konnie Crawford. Gross, now coaching at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, spent 17 seasons in the Major leagues and played for the 1980 Phillies World Series Championship team. He worked with ALS patients during his playing days with the Phillies and remains active helping the ALS Association.

Tickets for the game can be purchased online at readingphillies.com anytime or by calling the box office at (610) 375-8469 during normal business hours.
