Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA - Baysox outfielder Lou Montanez became just the second player ever to hit for the cycle against Altoona, as Bowie rolled over the Curve, 19-3 on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark.

Montanez hit for the cycle in succession, recording a single, double, triple and home run in order. He finished the night 5-for-6 and collected eight RBI's.

The only other player to hit for the cycle against the Curve also wore a Baysox uniform. Mike Fontenot also accomplished the feat against Altoona on August 3, 2003.

A jubilant crowd of 6,212 enjoyed a post-game fireworks show, but it was the Baysox who provided plenty of offensive fireworks on the field. The 19 runs scored by the Baysox are the most given up by Altoona in franchise history. The 16 run margin in which Altoona lost by is also the largest in franchise history.

The Baysox scored runs in every inning except the second and seventh, with the top three hitters in the Bowie lineup doing most of the damage. Sebastien Boucher, Carlos Rojas and Montanez went a combined 12-for-18, scored 13 of the 19 Bowie runs and accounted for 11 RBI's

Curve starter Derek Hankins (1-8) allowed nine runs, seven earned, over five innings of work.

Reliever Josh Shortslef didn't fair much better, as the southpaw allowed four runs on three hits in one inning. Shortslef allowed his first home run of the year, which was to Montanez and was the hit he needed to complete the cycle.

Mosies Robles was touched up for a pair of runs over two innings before Milver Reyes, normally a catcher, allowed four runs in the ninth inning.

The Curve were able to draw even in the game at one point. After the Baysox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Jamie Romak recorded his first hit in a Curve uniform, which was a two-run home run to bring the Curve within one.

Steve Lerud tied the game with a solo home run, but that's all the Curve would be able to muster offensively.

Jason Berken (10-3) won his fourth consecutive start after he pitched 6 2/3 innings.

The Curve will look to right the ship on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Christian Castorri (0-1, 6.32) will take the mound for Altoona, while Brad Bergesen (13-3, 2.68), the Eastern League leader in wins takes the hill for the Baysox.

On Saturday, fans at the ballpark will enjoy a bevy of festivities. The first 2,000 fans of all ages through gates will receive the third edition of the Curve's Tenth Anniversary Photo Ball, which features the likeness of Josh Bonifay and Ian Snell. Fans will also enjoy an appearance by the loveable mascot, Reggy.

The all-time Curve's wins leader, Landon Jacobsen will be in attendance to meet with fans and sign autographs as the Curve will salute their 2006 club.

Great seats are available for Saturday are still available, but are going fast. Fans can secure their seats over the phone at 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the BCB ticket windows.
