Hanford Native Tyson Perez Named to the PCL All-Star Team

July 1, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. -- A true Farm Grown talent is heading to the Triple-A All-Star Game. Right-handed pitcher Tyson Perez, who attended Hanford High School and Fresno City College, will represent the first-place Fresno Grizzlies on the Pacific Coast League All-Star team at Werner Park in Omaha on July 15th. Joining him from the Grizzlies will be outfielder L.J. Hoes, who was elected through fan voting. The two are the 27th and 28th players in franchise history to represent the Fresno Grizzlies in the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Perez, 25, is 1-2 with a 2.76 ERA (9 ER/29.1 IP), five saves, 20 strikeouts, and a .183 (19-104) opponents' average over 24 appearances with Fresno this season. He began the year with Double-A Corpus Christi, but received his first career promotion to Triple-A on April 21st and appeared that night, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings at Salt Lake. Now in his fifth professional season, Perez has enjoyed a career renaissance by switching to a relief role, going 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA (18 ER/71.0 IP), 17 saves, 51 strikeouts, five homers allowed, and a .182 (45-247) opponents' average over 57 appearances since May 30, 2014.

Hoes, 25, is hitting .338 (77-228) with 18 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 38 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 45 runs scored over 61 games. He enters tonight's game in El Paso ranked third in the Pacific Coast League in on-base percentage (.420) and fourth in batting average. The right-handed hitter only has four more strikeouts (35) than walks (31) this season and leads the team in batting average, hits, doubles, and stolen bases. His .338 batting average currently ranks as the sixth-best mark in franchise history.

Jon Singleton and Domingo Santana both received a substantial amount of votes and would almost assuredly been named to the team, if not for their recent promotions to the Houston Astros. Santana is 9-35 (.257) with two doubles, two homers, and eight RBI over 12 games (June 16-present) with the Astros, while Singleton is 1-6 with a double, two walks and two runs scored over two games (June 27-present).

The two selections this season mark the third straight year Fresno has had multiple players selected to the All-Star team.

Fans can watch the Triple-A All-Star Game live on MLB Network on Wednesday, July 15th at 5:00 p.m. PT. Paul Severino, Bill Ripken, John Manuel, and Sam Ryan will bring the action to viewers nationwide. The game will also be available to MiLB.TV subscribers live online at MiLB.com and on most Apple devices via the MiLB First Pitch app.

Local Central Valley fans can listen to the game on 1430 AM-KYNO, which is the Fresno Grizzlies flagship station.

The Fresno Grizzlies return home to Chukchansi Park on Saturday, July 4th to begin a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Live music, a Hot Dog Eating Contest (presented by Armour-Eckrich), food trucks, a Chorizo Mac & Cheese topped Hot Dog, first-place Triple-A Baseball, and a postgame Fireworks Extravaganza (presented by ABC30) all will be packed in the Fourth of July Celebration in Downtown Fresno.
