Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Oklahoma City Dodgers hit a trio of solo home runs in a 3-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.
All five runs scored by Oklahoma City over the first two games have been solo home runs. The Redbirds have dropped five of six games to the Dodgers this season.
Redbirds starter Nick Greenwood (6-3) came away with the loss in his third quality start of the season, allowing a career-high three home runs.
Darnell Sweeney gave Oklahoma City a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with his sixth home run of the year, a towering fly ball into the Fogelman YMCA parking lot.
Two innings later, Andy Wilkins and Kyle Jensen added back-to-back jacks to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Redbirds got a run back in the fifth after loading the bases and bringing home Matt Williams on a Stephen Piscotty sacrifice fly.
Outfielder Tommy Pham belted his fourth home run of the season in eighth inning to bring the Redbirds within one run at 3-2, but Memphis was unable to come away with a victory after stranding the tying run on third in the ninth.
Los Angeles Dodgers rehabber Brandon Beachy (1-0) allowed one run on six hits in five innings for the win.
The Redbirds and Dodgers continue their series at 7:05 pm on Thursday night at AutoZone Park. Left-hander John Gast (4-5, 4.14) will make the start for Memphis opposite Oklahoma City southpaw Ian Thomas (3-1, 6.95).
