
Zephyrs Pitch Another Shutout in Win at Omaha

PAPILLION, NE - Kendry Flores dealt six shutout innings and the Z's bullpen picked up the final three innings to earn their league best eleventh shutout of the season. The Zephyrs defeated the Chasers 2-0 in front of 5,111 fans at Werner Park.
Flores matched up against the young fireballer from the Kansas City Royals Yordano Ventura. Ventura on a rehab assignment for Omaha nursing an injured hand pitched five and a third innings and allowed one run on three hits. He won 14 games a year ago for the Royals and made four postseason starts including two World Series games.
Flores delivered the win for the Zephyrs, he scattered six hits in six innings and five strikeouts. It's the second consecutive win for the 23-year-old and both have been shutouts on this roadtrip. Ventura suffered the loss for Omaha.
The Z's scored in the sixth inning when Vinny Rottino was hit by a 95 mph pitch. Kila Ka'aihue singled and Omaha replaced Ventura on the mound. Juan Diaz doubled to left field off of Brian Broderick and the Z's grabbed a 1-0 lead.
New Orleans added a second run in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 2-0. Lay Batista pitched a scoreless seventh, Greg Nappo the eighth and Nick Wittgren earned his tenth save, pitching the ninth.
The Zephyrs are 37-41 on the season, trail Round Rock by nine games.
GAME NOTES
The PCL named its 2015 PCL All - Star Team for the upcoming Triple A All-Star Game in Omaha and two Zephyrs pitchers were named to the club. The league named Adam Conley the starting pitcher for the game and Nick Wittgren as a reserve.
The Zephyrs added pitcher Justin Nicolino from the Miami Marlins. The Z's also activated pitcher Rob Morey from the disabled list. The Z's released pitchers Jon Link and James Nygren.
The Z's with their league leading 11 shutouts. New Orleans had nine shutouts in 2014.
ON DECK
The Zephyrs continue the eight game road trip Thursday at 7:05PM against the Omaha Storm Chasers. The Zephyrs will start LH Justin Nicolino (4-3, 2.87) vs. RHP Aaron Brooks (4-4, 3.67). It's a rematch of the opening day match-up between the Z's and Chasers . Radio: WMTI 106.1 FM TV: CST #37
The Zephyrs return home on the Fourth of July. It will be the start of a four game homestand.
