Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (42-38) were shut out for the second time in the last three games against the New Orleans Zephyrs (37-41), blanked 2-0 for their sixth shutout defeat on the year. The loss combined with an Oklahoma City win moves the Chasers to 10.0 games back in the division race.

Kansas City right-hander Yordano Ventura made his second start as part of his MLB Rehab Assignment with Omaha, and allowed only one run in 5.1 innings but was saddled with the loss. Ventura held New Orleans scoreless through the first five innings before two runners reached and he exited with one out in the sixth. Omaha reliever Brian Broderick came on and let one of those runners score on a double by Juan Diaz. Three of the four runs allowed by Ventura in the two outings with Omaha have scored after his exits.

The Storm Chasers offense could not put up any runs in the game, leaving a runner at either second or third stranded in six of the nine innings and going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. In the two starts by Ventura, Omaha has scored only one total run. Yordano has now suffered the loss in seven of his last 12 outings between Kansas City and the Storm Chasers, with only one win in that span.

Seven of the fourteen meetings between Omaha and New Orleans have been decided by two runs or less, including four of the six games played at Werner Park. Since the start of June the Storm Chasers actually have a losing record at home at 6-7, and a worse record (3-3) at Werner Park against New Orleans than on the road (5-3).

Tomorrow's matchup will feature a rematch of Opening Day this season, with RHP Aaron Brooks (4-4, 3.67 ERA) facing off with Zephyrs LHP Justin Nicolino (4-3, 2.87 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and Cox Channel 126 is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
