Arismendy Alcantara Selected for 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game
July 1, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa (July 1, 2015) - Iowa Cubs infielder/outfielder Arismendy Alcantara has been selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team, the league announced Wednesday. Alcantara will represent the I-Cubs and the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 15 in Omaha, Neb.
Alcantara, 23, is batting .252 (64-for-254) with a team-leading 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 10 doubles, 42 runs, 11 stolen bases and a league-leading seven triples in 64 games as Iowa's leadoff man.
The Dominican Republic native has appeared in 39 games at second base, six games at third base, two games at shortstop and 19 games in the outfield for Iowa this season.
Alcantara is a PCL All-Star for the second consecutive season. He is the second Iowa Cub to be named to the team twice after Geovany Soto did it in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Alcantara did not participate in last season's Triple-A All-star game due to his promotion to the Chicago Cubs prior to the event in Durham, N.C.
This is his fourth straight season Alcantara has received midseason All-Star honors overall. He was named a Florida State League All-Star with Advanced-A Daytona in 2012 and a Southern League All-Star with Double-A Tennessee in 2013. He was selected to the team by a combination of online fan voting, ballots cast by the league's managers and broadcasters, and the league office.
The 28th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on MLB Network beginning at 7 p.m. CT. The game will also be available to MiLB.TV subscribers live online at MiLB.com. The game can be heard on the air in Des Moines on AM 940 KPSZ and 104.5 FM, flagship stations of the Iowa Cubs.
