
Pimentel, Iowa Knock off Round Rock 4-3 in Back-And-Forth Affair

DES MOINES, Iowa (July 1, 2015) - The Iowa Cubs (41-37) survived three lead changes as it derailed the Round Rock Express (46-32) 4-3 in Pacific Coast League action Wednesday night at Principal Park. The win snapped Iowa's three-game losing streak against the Express.
Round Rock got on the board first in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Ryan Strausborger, his eighth of the season.
Iowa struck back in the bottom of the second inning on a Chris Valaika sacrifice fly, then took the lead when Junior Lake scored on Express left-hander Matt Harrison's wild pitch.
The I-Cubs added another run in the third when Kyle Schwarber singled through the hole at shortstop to bring in Arismendy Alcantara, increasing Iowa's lead to 3-1.
The Express notched another run in the top of the fifth when Tyler Pastornicky hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Brett Nicholas. Pastornicky then tied it up for Round Rock in the eighth on an RBI double to bring in Beamer Weems.
Rubi Silva came into the game as a pinch runner for Schwarber in the bottom of the eighth and scored to break the 3-3 gridlock when Christian Villanueva grounded out to shortstop, deep enough to drive in the game-winning run.
Right-hander Carlos Pimentel allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and one walk in 6.0 innings in a no-decision. He struck out nine for the second straight start to tie a season-high. He lowered his season ERA to 3.01 in the effort.
Right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. (1-0) allowed a run on two hits and one walk and struck out three over 2.0 innings to earn his first Triple-A win. Righty Brian Schlitter nailed down his seventh save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Harrison allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings in his second rehab start against the I-Cubs this season. Fellow rehabbing Texas Ranger Ross Ohlendorf (2-2) allowed the winning run in the eighth to suffer the loss.
Schwarber led Iowa offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Lake went 2-for-4 with a double.
Pastornicky paced Round Rock offensively, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI. Nicholas also had two hits on the night to go with a double and a run scored.
Iowa and Round Rock play game three of a four-game series Thursday night at Principal Park. First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m. CT. Left-hander Drake Britton (4-4, 5.40) will take the mound for Iowa opposite rehabbing left-hander Martin Perez (0-0, 2.25).
