Ashwaubenon, WI. - The Kalamazoo Growlers (22-18, 6-2) six-game win streak came to an end in a 17-5 defeat to the host Green Bay Booyah (19-24, 4-3) at Capital Credit Union Park Tuesday evening.
The Booyah jumped on the Growlers early, sprinting to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings. Green Bay drilled a three-run homer in the first followed by two more runs in the second to grab the early advantage.
Kalamazoo fought back in the fourth as a two-run single from Jimmy Sullivan (Virginia) put the Growlers on the board and Gabe Rivera (Univ. of Miami) scored on an error to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Growlers trimmed the margin to 5-4 in the fifth on a Rivera RBI single.
Green Bay's offense quickly exploded in the ensuing frame, compiling six runs on four hits including a grand slam to extend the lead to 11-4. Kalamazoo plated its final run in the sixth on a RBI single by Zack Gelof (Virginia) to make it 11-5. Gelof finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored at the plate.
The Booyah bats continued to produce in the sixth with a two-run blast from Chris Williams to stretch the advantage to 13-5. Green Bay scratched across four more in the eighth inning to go up by 12 runs.
Green Bay reliever Jacob Paulishak earned the win, improving to 1-0. Kalamazoo starting pitcher Drew Shultz (Northwood Univ.) took the loss, falling to 1-1.
The Kalamazoo Growlers conclude the 2019 season series with Green Bay tomorrow evening at Capital Credit Union Park. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. CT start.
