
Stingers Bats Come Alive in Victory

Willmar Stingers News Release
Willmar, Minn. - The Stingers were dominant in tonight's 13-4 win over Duluth. The long ball was a factor for Willmar as it accounted for five RBI's. The Stingers had 16 total hits in the game.
Polo Portela (Cumberland) went 5.2 innings in his start for the Stingers. He gave up one earned run off five hits. Chase Stanke (Minnesota) took a 1-1 fastball and put it over the right-center fence for a two-run home run in the first inning. 2-0 Stingers. In the third inning, it was Andrew Lucas that had a two out, two-run single that scored Boissiere and Stanke. The very next batter, Kevin Saenz (San Jose State), had a two-run double that scored two more. 6-0 Stingers. Brandon Bohning (Northridge) carried the scoring into the fourth inning when his sacrifice flyout scored Baier. 7-0 Stingers.
The Huskies were able to bring a run across in the fifth when a walk, followed by a triple, scored a run. 7-1 Stingers. The Stingers scored another four runs in the fifth. It was Branden Boissiere (Arizona) that had the hit of the night. His three-run home run put the Stingers up 11-1. Masen Palmier (Missouri Baptist) came into relief for the Stingers. He pitched the next 2.1 innings giving up three runs off four hits. The three runs all came from one swing of the bat when the Huskies had a three-run home run of their own in the eighth. 11-4 Stingers.
Noah Haupt (New Mexico State) initiated runs in the eighth when his double scored Bosetti. Two batters later, Saenz switched places with Haupt on the bases after hitting his second double of the night. Andrew Lucas (Northridge) pitched the last inning for the Stingers. He was lights out as he struck out two of the three batters he faced. The final score was 13-4 in favor of Willmar.
The Stingers are back in action again tomorrow to face the Huskies for Game 2 at Bill Taunton Stadium. First pitch 7:05pm CT.
