Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (17-15-6-7) defeated the Bakersfield Condors 5-2 Tuesday at the E-Center to win their second-straight game.
Utah went up 1-0 in the first period with a shorthanded breakaway goal by Rob Hennigar, his 6th of the season and second shorthanded.
Tom May led off the second period with his 14th goal of the year 41 seconds in. Bakersfield matched it with one of their own at the two-minute mark in the second on the power-play. Tim Maxwell, though, regained Utah's two-goal lead back just a minute and 44 seconds later, with his 3rd goal of the season at 3:44. The Condors came back with their second goal in the second period at 11:56. 3-2 was the score going to the third period.
The third period was all Grizzlies as they went up 5-2 to finish off the game. At 10:50 Scott Thauwald had a goal fighting off two defenders to get off a shot that went high off the glass behind the net before rebounding back to him and he tapped it in for the goal. Exactly four minutes later, James Brannigan sealed the game with his fourth goal in two nights after his hat-trick Saturday night against Phoenix. The goal was setup by a beautiful drop pass by Mark Pavli.
Grizzlies goalie Peter Mannino had another great game, stopping 31 of 33 shots and all 17 of Bakersfield's shots in the first period to start the contest.
The Grizzlies and the Condors complete their two-game series Wednesday at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
