Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today the details of Sunday's pregame ceremony to honor Johnstown's local hockey heroes.

As a part of U.S.A. Hockey's Hockey Weekend Across America, the Chiefs have arranged for several of Johnstown's hockey heroes from the Jets, Wings, and Chiefs to be honored prior to the game against Wheeling.

"There's a long and rich hockey tradition in Johnstown, and the Chiefs are proud to honor a handful of people who are more than just a small part of that. We're especially excited about retiring the number of one of the greatest players in Johnstown hockey history, Reg Kent," said General Manager and Vice President Bill Bredin.

The former players will take part in a luncheon at the War Memorial with their families and guests before heading to ice level for the pregame ceremony. Among those scheduled to be honored on Sunday are: former Chiefs owner Jim Edwards, Jets goalie Denny Erickson, Steve Emmett, Chiefs 20th Anniversary Team members Rick Boyd and Dmitri Tarabrin, Red Wings defenseman Harry Shaw, Jets tough guy Dave Brich, and Johnstown hockey legends Don Hall and Galen Head.

Saving the best for last, the Chiefs will pay tribute to Reg Kent, the third leading scorer in Johnstown hockey history. From 1965-74, Kent amassed 818 points (274G, 544A) in 601 games. Kent set the single season point record in 1967-68 with 145 (38G, 107A). His number seven will hang from the War Memorial rafters alongside Don Hall, Dick Roberge, and Galen Head.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Friday, February 13 and will host the Reading Royals. That game will feature the Chiefs' "Lucky 13" tickets. Any seat in section 13, or any seat numbered 13, can be purchased for just $13. Good seats are available, but going quickly! Act fast and be sure to get your seat by calling 814-539-1799 or 814-536-5156.
