
Salmon Kings Trade For All-Star D-Man

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has made a trade with the Florida Everblades for All-Star defenseman Aaron Brocklehurst. Going to Florida will be forward Milan Gajic.
Brocklehurst is a Nanaimo, BC native that is in his rookie professional season. He has played in 37 games with the Everblades this season and has collected 20 points (4g-16a) while picking up 30 minutes in penalties. He also participated in the 2009 ECHL All-Star game as a member of the American Conference All-Star team. He notched one assist and earned a plus/minus ranking of +3 at the annual event.
"Aaron is a top-end defenseman and we are very happy to add him to our roster," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He is an offensive minded defenseman that also can take care of the back-end. It is tough to let a player like Milan Gajic go, but with the injuries and call-ups to our defensive core it was a move we had to make."
The 23-year-old has also spent time in the AHL this year with the Lake Erie Monsters. While with the Cleveland-based team he played in four games.
The 5-10, 194lb Brocklehurst spent the last four seasons playing for the St. Cloud State Huskies in Minnesota. For his career he has tallied 63 points (17g-46a) in 148 career games. As a senior in 2007-08 he netted 22 points (4g-18a) in 40 games while helping the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament. Brocklehurst led all St. Cloud State defenseman in goals, assist and points, while ranking fourth overall on the Huskies in scoring.
Brocklehurst also played in the BCHL during the 2003-04 season, and spent time with the Victoria Salsa, Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Powell River Kings.
Gajic will head back to the American Conference for the first time since playing with the Gwinnett Gladiators during the 2005-06 season. The Burnaby, BC native returned to the Salmon Kings on February 2nd after spending the first part of this season in Denmark playing for the Nordsjaelland Cobras.
For Victoria this season Gajic played in four games and collected one assist, while earning a plus/minus rating of -5. In 30 games he collected 25 points (9g-16a), three game winning goals and 16 minutes in penalties for the Cobras.
The Burnaby, BC native sits third on the Salmon Kings all-time scoring list with 105 points (39g-66a) in 102 games. For his North American professional career he has participated in 193 games notching 73 goals and 111 assists for 184 points.
Gajic spent four years at the University of Michigan before turning professional. In 158 games he scored 53 goals and 62 assists for 115 points. Prior to Michigan he spent two years in the BCHL with the Burnaby Bulldogs.
The Salmon Kings head out on an 11-game road-trip beginning Wednesday in Anchorage when the Kings will take on the Aces at 8:15 p.m. PST.
