Bakersfield Condors News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - G Peter Mannino made 31 saves to lead the Utah Grizzlies to a 5-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 2,040 fans at the E-Center Tuesday Night.
The Condors (16-26-6, 38pts) had their share of first period chances, only to be denied time and again by Utah G Peter Mannino. They had a 17-11 shot lead in the frame, aided by three power plays, but could not light the lamp. On one of those advantages, however, Utah scored shorthanded to take a 1-0 lead. C Rob Hennigar tallied on a breakaway for the only goal of the period.
Utah (17-15-13, 45pts) extended the lead just 41 seconds into the middle stanza with a goal by F Tom May. RW Mike Wirll connected on the power play at the 2:00 mark to bring the Condors within one. But less than two minutes later, D Tim Maxwell pocketed his third of the season to regain the two-goal lead. Bakersfield kept fighting back, though, and D Donny Grover pounded in a rebound at 11:56 to make it 3-2 after two periods.
The Condors pressed to tie it in the third period, but instead the Grizzlies kept a safe margin. LW Scott Thauwald notched his sixth of the season at 10:50 to once again make it a multi-goal lead. Four minutes later, RW James Brannigan padded the lead to make it 5-2 Grizzlies and account for the final score. Click here to view the complete box score.
