Grizzlies to Wear Salt Lake Golden Eagles Uniforms Saturday for Angel's Hands
November 12, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies will wear Salt Lake Golden Eagles uniforms on Saturday when they host the Rapid City Rush at 7 p.m.
The uniforms will be auctioned off in complete sets following the game with all proceeds going to the Angel's Hands Foundation. The Grizzlies will be wearing the patented Kelly Green and Gold that the Eagles wore from 1972-1987.
In the addition, Icy the Golden Eagle will be on hand and the Grizzlies will have on display: trophies, photos, game programs and other memorabilia that have been in storage for over 20 years before Saturday's re-unveiling.
The Golden Eagles played in Salt Lake City from 1969-1994; winning five league championships in 1975, 1980, 1981, 1987 and 1988. The Grizzlies and Maverik Center are proud to display the banner commemorating the five Golden Eagles titles next to the Grizzlies Turner Cup banners every day of the year.
Angel's Hands Foundation (AHF) was founded in 2001 by Mark and Roxann Kristensen and friends. They have been working with the Grizzlies since before their inception. Upon returning from a national conference on their son Matt's disease, friends of the Kristensen's decided to raise money to help Utah families deal with the everyday struggles facing families with rare diseases.
Currently, AHF provides support and assistance to Utah families living with over 80 different rare diseases and 20 undiagnosed conditions. AHF also provided financial support to Shriner's Hospital and Primary Children's Hospital, as well local school district therapists. They continue to find unique diseases and conditions where families need help.
AHF supports families in a variety of ways. Assisting families with medical expenses by paying off lingering medical bills and purchasing medical equipment not covered by insurance, has brought relief to families. Even with benefits, these families often struggle to give their children some of the simple joys in life. Hearing aids, wheel chairs, specialty strollers, special beds, braces, therapy spas, specialty bicycles, air conditioning and air filtration systems, special bath tubs, and many other items have been given to our children.
AHF provides educational support about diseases from our family relationships and by helping families attend national conferences to meet other families from around the country, as well as medical specialists on their child's disease.
Emotional, moral, and social support is often not available for families with rare conditions. AHF has developed a support system for our families. This has provided emotional support when difficult times come. Hospitalization is difficult and death is unbearable when our children get sick and die. This happens to most of their families.
AHF provides social outings for our families 8-10 times a year. Many of their children do not go out in public due to their conditions or physical limitations. AHF has taken families to professional hockey, basketball and baseball games. They have had private swimming parties, pizza parties, Christmas parties, fishing parties, picnics, taken kids snow skiing, and we have also gone to movies and the circus. Many of these events are luxuries that our families cannot afford due to the financial hardships brought on by the diseases.
