Grizzlies Take Series from Rascals with Day Game Victory

June 13, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Gateway starter Alex Kaminsky picked up his Frontier Leading fifth win of the season Wednesday, helping the Grizzlies push past their cross-town rival River City 4-2 in an afternoon series finale.

3,315 turned out to GCS Ballpark to witness the conclusion of the season's first episode of the River Rivalry, and with efficiency in mind, the two clubs made it a timely two hour and 26 minute affair. Grizzlie righty Kaminsky (5-0) was again superb, limiting the opposition to only two runs on five hits with four strikeouts in his six innings of labor.

Offensively the home club did all their damage in the fourth frame; collecting four runs on key RBI pokes by both Jerod Yakubik (.320) and Landon Hernandez (.255). Yakubik delivered first with a 2-run RBI single that knotted the game at two runs apiece, and Hernandez followed with a 2-run homer to right that would prove to be the decisive tallies.

River City (15-9) arm Tony Marsala (2-1) was charged his first loss of the season, finishing with a final line of four earned on seven hits in seven innings of work. The Grizzlies compiled a full team effort in the two-run edging, posting eight hits by seven different players.

The Grizzlies (12-12) hit the road again for a nine-game grind that will start in Normal, Illinois against the CornBelters on Thursday. Righty Pat Arnold (1-0) will get the nod on the mound for Gateway. First pitch is set for 6:30 CT.
