Sauget, Ill. - A defensive miscue led to a four-run third inning for the Gateway Grizzlies who overcame an early 2-0 deficit to knock off the River City Rascals 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rascals (15-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Curran Redal doubled to right field and Jeremy Synan followed with a single to left-center to put runners at the corners. Jason Patton hit a sacrifice fly to score Redal and Charlie Lisk followed with an RBI single which would prove to be the last RBI for the Rascals on the afternoon.

Gateway exploded for their four runs in the third, two on a double from Jarod Yakubik that followed a hit batter, infield single, and sacrifice. Landon Hernandez followed up with a drive to right field that appeared to be caught by Patton, but it hit off his glove, deflecting over the short wall in right field, and was ruled a homerun for Hernandez.

The offenses for both teams were shut down the rest of the way with the Rascals stranding seven runners on the bases.

The loss ends the nine-game road stretch for River City who went 3-6 during the stretch with four of those losses coming by one run.

The Rascals are back home for a three-game series in a rematch with 2011 Frontier League Championship foe Joliet Slammers Thursday with first pitch set for 7:05.
