Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

MARION, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums clubbed three solo homers, but the Southern Illinois Miners scraped across just enough offense to avoid a sweep as the Miners topped Traverse City 5-3

After the Miners got a pair of second inning runs on an Elliot Hagburg single in the second, the Beach Bums started their offensive night as Marcus Nidiffer led off the third inning with his second homerun of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. Chase Burch led off the fourth inning with his fifth big fly of the season helping Traverse City to tie the game at 2-2.

Southern Illinois would respond with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to reestablish a two-run lead at 4-2. Nidiffer made sure the Beach Bums weren't done yet as he homered in the sixth, the first two homer game of his career, to cut the lead to 4-3. The Miners would add an unearned run in the seventh, however to cap the scoring.

The win went to Shawn Gilblair (3-1) who allowed the three homers over six innings of work. Reid Kelly (3-1) took the loss despite tossing a career long seven innings, striking out seven. Max Peterson earned his eighth save of the year.

Traverse City now heads home for three games against the Lake Erie Crushers. Thursday night will see David Deminsky (2-1, 8.18) on the mound for the Beach Bums against Alex Loftin (0-0, 0.00) for the Crushers. It is a Two for Ticket Thirsty Thursday at Wuerfel Park. All chairback seats are two-for-one and fans will receive a dollar off fountain drinks and beer. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. For tickets call 943-0100 or visit www.tcbeachbums.com.
