Schaumburg Boomers News Release
JOLIET, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers wasted no time in scoring a 9-1 road win at Joliet to capture the series, slugging 12 hits and setting a franchise record for runs.
The Boomers quickly erased memories of an 8-0 shutout loss on Tuesday, striking for two quick runs in the top of the first before an out was even recorded. Gerard Hall lined the first pitch of the game from Joliet starter Eric Binder into left for a single. Nick Kuroczko followed by drawing a walk and Frank Pfister handed the Boomers the lead with a double down the left field line. Jereme Milons walked to load the bases and Chad Mozingo coaxed a walk to force home a run.
Binder failed to make it through the second as Schaumburg tacked on two more runs. Mike Valadez was hit by a pitch and Andrew Cohn laced a single. A sacrifice moved the runners to second and third before a wild pitch allowed a run to score. Binder exited following the wild pitch and Kuroczko lifted a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 lead. Mozingo tripled with one out and third and scored on a Nate Baumann single. Baumann came around later on a groundout as the lead was 6-0.
Schaumburg stretched the edge to 8-0 in the fifth. Sean Mahley tripled to right and scored on a Ty Nelson single. Joliet's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth. Mozingo hit his third homer of the season in the eighth to account for the final.
Robbie Penny was the beneficiary of the run support, working seven innings and allowing just one run on six hits to go with two walks and four strikeouts. Jason Braun and Adam Tollefson pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings to preserve the win. Everyone who played in the game for the Boomers reached base at least once. Pfister and Mozingo posted two hits as 10 different individuals collected a hit. Nelson scored two runs.
The Booomers are again tied for first the in West Division by virtue of River City's loss to Gateway earlier in the day. Schaumburg returns home on Thursday to open a six-game homestand with the first of three against the Rockford RiverHawks. Both teams have yet to announce a starter for the 6:30 p.m. contest.
