(Joliet, IL)- After Joliet beat down Schaumburg Tuesday, the Boomers paid the Slammers back on Wednesday in a 9-1 win to take the first-ever series between the teams.

The Boomers scored early and often, jumping ahead with a pair of runs in the first. They put the first two runners aboard, and Frank Pfister brought one around before an out had been recorded. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Chad Mozingo picked up an RBI when Slammers starter Eric Binder walked in a run.

The Boomers extended the 2-0 lead in the second. Mike Valadez was hit by a pitch and was replaced on the basepaths by Ty Nelson, who eventually came around on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, with Andrew Cohn in scoring position, Nick Kuroczko popped a sacrifice fly into the outfield, bringing Cohn home to make it 4-0. Schaumburg piled on with another two runs in the third, courtesy of a Nate Baumann single and a groundout from Cohn. They went on to score another pair in the sixth after Sean Mahley tripled and Nelson brought him home on a single, and Kuroczko knocked him in later in the inning.

Joliet finally got on the board in the sixth. David Fox led off with a single, and moved to third when Sean Estand reached on a single of his own. Kyle Maunus then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Fox to trot home from third, putting the tally at 8-1.

The Boomers eventually re-took their eight run advantage in the eighth on a solo shot from Mozingo, giving the game its final 9-1 score.

Eric Binder struggled in his start and didn't make it out of the 2 nd inning, picking up only four outs before being replaced by Seth Hobbs, who took the game into the seventh, when Geoff Brown, Brian Smith, and Daniel Carela finished off Schaumburg. Robbie Penny earned the win for the Boomers through seven innings of one-run ball.

The Slammers hit the road for a three-gamer with the River City Rascals Thursday-Saturday. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse calling the action, online at www.wjol.com.
