November 12, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City - After a slow start, the Utah Grizzlies put together three goals in the second period to gain the lead and ultimately a solid victory over the Manitoba Moose Wednesday at the 'E' Center.
The Grizzlies and Moose both had trouble getting their offensive games off the ground during a first period, a period that saw only thirteen combined shots. The Moose were first to find the net with a shot by Rene Vydareny that slipped by Jason Bacashihua at the 17:27 mark. Bacashihua finished the game with 19 saves.
Utah responded to their 1-0 deficit with three straight second period scores. Jarrod Skalde scored his fourth goal of the season on the powerplay after 1:34 had elapsed. Justin Cox was next to find the net at the 5:47 mark when he went in one-on-one against Moose netminder Alex Auld and slung a shot through his skates. Rob Valicevic netted his seventh point of the season at 13:14 of the second period giving Utah the 4-1 lead.
The Moose managed to put up one more score just before the end of the second period with an unassisted effort by Jimmy Roy with fifty seconds remaining. However, Utah only needed until 1:04 into the third period to score again. It was David Gove who took advantage of the powerplay registering his third goal of the year. Gove finished the game with a goal and two assists. David Bararuk added Utah's final goal on an empty net with 48 seconds remaining in the game.
The Grizzlies and the Moose will tangle in the 'E' Center again this Saturday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
