Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros have recalled defenseman Kevin Mitchell from the ECHL's Louisiana IceGators, the teams announced Wednesday. Mitchell played three games for the IceGators over the weekend, notching six points (1g, 5a) â all on the power play â and was a runner-up for ECHL Player of the Week.
The 23-year-old Mitchell is in his third pro season, and he was named an ECHL All-Star in each of his first two campaigns with Louisiana. Last season, Mitchell was elected to start in the All-Star Game, but missed the contest due to a lengthy call-up to the AHL. He spent time in the AHL with both Bridgeport and Cleveland, accumulating 12 points (3g, 9a) in 42 games. Mitchell, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Bronx, N.Y., has played two games with the Aeros this season without recording a point. Mitchell attended camp with the NHL's Minnesota Wild in September. He has career totals of 94 points (16g, 78a) in 158 pro games. His ECHL numbers are also outstanding, with 79 points (13g, 66a) in 96 contests.
