Utah Grizzlies News Release
Loveland, Colorado - Martin Lee scored a power-play goal at the buzzer as the Utah Grizzlies (35-22-3-5) defeated the Colorado Eagles (31-23-7-4) 2-1 Saturday night in Loveland.
The game was scoreless until the third period when Colorado picked up a turnover between the circles and Todd Fiddler blasted a one-time to give Colorado a 1-0 lead 10:06 into the final frame. Utah then took a cross-checking penalty 24 seconds later and were facing a shorthanded situation. Utah though broke free shorthanded with D.J. Jelitto going hard to the net, he was taken down, but Adam Pineault took over and scored to tie the game 1:05 after Colorado took the 1-0 lead.
On the ensuing face-off, the Grizzlies bench was assessed a bench minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and went shorthanded five-on-three for one minute and 20 seconds. Utah killed that and the remaining 40 seconds short to keep the game 1-1.
With 2:16 left in regulation, the Grizzlies went back to the penalty box, but Brendan Jamison was tripped behind the net and the game went four-on-four.
With 10 seconds left and on a power-play, the Grizzlies carried the puck in on a three-on-two and a shot was turned away. Utah controlled the rebound and Martin Lee blasted a shot on top of the circle at the buzzer and Utah won the game 2-1. Michael Pelech and Mathieu Aubin drew assists on the game-winning goal.
Grizzlies goaltender Igor Bobkov stopped 16 of 17 shots to improve to 17-7-2-2 and improve on his league best goals-against-average which was 2.04 entering the game.
The Grizzlies are now 13 games above .500 for the first time since the last day of the regular season on April 15, 2000.
The Grizzlies and Colorado wrap up four games in eight nights against each other on Wednesday at Maverik Center. Face-off is at 7 p.m.
